About

The Spice Island of Zanzibar is part of the UNESCO World Heritage and lies in the Indian Ocean off the coast of Tanzania. With year-round warm temperatures, it is the ideal destination – 365 days a year.

The Sevi Boutique Hotel is located on the northeastern coast, near the village of Kigomani, and sits directly on the longest beach of the island. Here, you will find coconut palms and a turquoise sea, as well as warm hospitality and relaxation.

The beach is protected by an outer reef, and in the shallow waters, you can discover coral, fish, and other marine life. For diving, snorkeling excursions, or romantic sunset cruises, the hotel’s fleet of Dhows and Ngalawas, as well as local fishing boats, are at your disposal. The diving and snorkeling paradise, Mnemba Atoll, is just a short distance away.

Please note that the Sevi Boutique Hotel welcomes only guests aged 12 and above. Teenager rates are available upon request. We would be happy to provide a personalized offer for your family. Feel free to contact us anytime via our contact form or by email for a non-binding inquiry.

Ecosophie

At SeVi, we live in close connection with the village of Kigomani, and supporting the community is an integral part of our mission. Sustainability is essential for us, as we operate on an island with limited resources. To this end, we utilize solar energy, minimize plastic usage, engage in organic farming, recycle waste as much as possible, and collect rainwater.

Our commitment is reflected in every aspect of our operations—from the architecture of our bungalows, which are built using locally sourced materials, to the small decorative items crafted by local artisans. The toiletries provided for your skin and hair care come from Inaya Zanzibar, an all-women initiative.

As you enjoy the gentle breeze and relax on the fine white sands of the beach, you can watch the fishermen of the village at work. Many still use traditional boats like Dhows and Ngalawas. When you later enjoy a freshly prepared fish dish, you can be sure it’s the catch of the day, the direct result of their labor.

The spices used in our kitchen come from Zanzibar’s spice farms, renowned for their rich flavors and history. Many villagers work with us at the hotel, where we train them to be waiters, chefs, receptionists, gardeners, and housekeepers. Some also supply us with food. Their income has improved the living conditions of their families, enabling them to provide their children with the benefits of an education. Many of our staff members have been part of our team for years and are considered part of the SeVi family.

Until recently, Kigomani was a village whose livelihood was based entirely on fishing. The villagers built their own traditional boats—Dhows, the Arabian-inspired cargo ships, and Ngalawas, traditional dugout canoes with outriggers and sails. With increasing prosperity, many fishermen have transitioned to modern boats with outboard motors, making their daily work easier.

To preserve this ancient knowledge and support the continuation of the culture, SeVi employs Kigomani’s boat builders to construct traditional ships. Our Dhows and Ngalawas were built on our beach and now take our guests out to snorkel in the Mnemba Atoll, keeping this ancient maritime heritage alive.
